A cure for HIV was among the key themes at the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) last week in Washington, DC. Sharon Lewin from Monash University in Melbourne -- co-chair of the 2014 International AIDS Conference -- gives us a recap of cure highlights presented at the meeting.

Leading cure stories include use of the cancer drug vorinostat to purge latent HIV in resting cells, news of 2 bone marrow transplant recipients who have undetectable HIV after receiving mild chemotherapy that allowed them to stay on antiretroviral therapy, and a cohort of French patients who are controlling HIV after starting treatment during the acute stage of infection.
